Blindfolded Super Mario 64 speedrun world record shattered by expert player!

The world of speedrunning has seen some incredible feats over the years, but this latest one might just take the cake. Speedrunner Bubzia has completed a blindfolded 120-star run of Super Mario 64, completing the game in an impressive 11 hours, 22 minutes, and 43 seconds. While blindfolded runs of the game have been completed before, this is believed to be the first 120-star run done while relying solely on sound cues.

Super Mario 64 remains a hugely popular game within the speedrunning community, with records for the 120-star run being fiercely contested. Last year, when Japanese speedrunner Batora broke the world record for the 120-star run, it caused quite a stir in Japan.

Bubzia’s achievement is all the more remarkable given that the run was completed blindfolded. As a veteran of blindfolded speedruns, Bubzia had already completed several other games using the technique, including The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and NieR: Automata.

The attempt to complete a blindfolded 120-star run of Super Mario 64 began back in March, with the first attempt being abandoned due to the difficulty of obtaining a star in Lethal Lava Land that requires collecting 100 coins. The second attempt, made in April, took around 11 hours but ended with Bubzia only managing to collect 102 stars due to mental exhaustion and some controller issues.

Despite the challenges, Bubzia persisted and finally managed to complete the run on the third attempt. The achievement is a testament to Bubzia’s skill as a blindfolded speedrunner, as well as his determination and perseverance.

The run was not without its difficulties, however. Collecting 100 coins in Lethal Lava Land once again proved to be a sticking point, with Bubzia losing track of Mario’s location after being hit by a Bully enemy. After pausing the game and carefully assessing the situation, Bubzia managed to find Mario and finally collect the star.

The final hurdle came in the form of the star from the Tower of the Wing Cap, which involves collecting all eight red coins located in mid-air using the Wing Cap. Despite encountering some setbacks, Bubzia managed to navigate his way to the star and complete the run with an impressive time of 11 hours, 22 minutes, and 43 seconds.

Overall, Bubzia’s achievement is a remarkable one that highlights the dedication and skill required to excel in the world of speedrunning. As the community continues to push the boundaries of what is possible, it will be exciting to see what other incredible feats lie ahead.
